After a 75 minute flight I arrived at Hong Kong international airport where I took the train (and then the metro) to “Tsim Sha Tsui”. A friend of mine had told me that there are a lot of guest houses in this area and it took me about 5 minutes to find an affordable and clean (albeit not exactly spacious) room. The building where this room was in housed people from 120 different nationalities. I  spent 5 days in Hong Kong and during this time I visited various attractions, bought myself a new camera, tried a lot of different dishes and got really ill. The reason for this I think were the malaria tablets I had to start taking before going to Thailand. So during my last couple of days in Hong Kong I didn’t do much, except lying on my bed, but before that I had a great time in this amazing city. I visited the enormous Buddha statue on a hill just outside the city from where I had an amazing panoramic view over the coastline. I also visited a number of monasteries and a nunnery. The wooden buildings of the nunnery were almost as impressive as the nunnery’s incredible gardens.
Just like I did in Taipei I used the metro system to get around the city. But I also walked a lot. One evening I walked up to “The Peak”, a hill overlooking most of the city. This was quite a strenuous walk partly because it’s a long way up, but mostly because Hong Kong was experiencing a heat wave during my visit. The view was more than worth it though. The view of Hong Kong by night is like that of no other city, every evening at 8pm all the buildings in Kowloon put on a big light display. The following day I watched this show from the Kowloon harbour and it was very impressive, it included fireworks and ridiculous music.
I had a great time In Hong Kong, but after 4 days I was really looking forward to Thailand.
